We did it, as promised since our beginning!

First we had to know our real environmental impact as a team — meaning training and competition hours of players, but also coaches, communication and back office. In esports, this translates mostly as energy consumption (from consoles, computers, monitors) and mobility (different means of transportation, especially for competitions and events abroad).

Betclic Apogee teamed up with ZeroWasteLab, a non profit organization focused on zero waste solutions - in this case addressing the most invisible kind of waste, ever growing alongside our gadgets and digital lives.

A simple and effective tool was developed in the form of an app, able to track real energy consumption for each team member, according to their specific hardware, by clicking on a timer whenever training, competing and/or working online. Travel can also be added, and all data collected is immediately translated into CO2 equivalent emissions (based on GreenHouse Gas Protocol Environmental Impact Assessment), and its correspondence in number of trees as carbon-capturers, to make this understanding more tangible. The app also evolved to include the team’s calendar, tasks and news, making it an important tool for team management and also raising awareness.

The team calculated all its real emissions since the beginning of the season and then offset their impact, investing in carbon-capture solutions that push for regenerative practices. This process was accredited by ZeroCertified.

Furthermore, by knowing its impact, now the team is choosing to make better decisions regarding prevention and energy consumption, as well as better travel options, in order to lower its overall environmental impact, becoming a living example for all gamers and raising the flag of Sustainability for the entire esports Community!
